A Personal Appeal From Isabella Geriatric Center

Dear Friend,

Sometimes, the best presents don’t come gift-wrapped, and aren’t even given at the holidays.

Both on our campus and in our community, and all throughout 2011, Isabella Geriatric Center has been bringing holiday cheer to the residents of northern Manhattan:

As part of our innovative caregiver support program, Isabella provided thousands of hours of free home care to over 100 stressed residents of Harlem andWashington Heights-Inwood who needed help caring for frail, elderly relatives so they could get to work, go to a doctor’s appointment, or just take a day off.

More than 100 community teens took part in unique afterschool programs in which they read to nursing home residents, participated in art and history projects with them, and got valuable healthcare experience, even as they earned much-needed stipends to help support themselves and their families.

• An innovative program led by community seniors, Isabella’s YUM Fresh Food Project provided over 75,000 pounds of Greenmarket-fresh produce at cost to area residents,  who have among the highest rates of diabetes and heart disease in the country.

Isabella always gives whatever it can to area seniors and those who love and care for them, not just during December, but all throughout the year.

Yet, as ever-deeper funding cuts threaten our work in both the nursing home and in programs serving the community, private donations have become more important than ever.We hope you will consider making a year-end donation in support of Isabella’s mission to improve the quality-of-life for not just our residents, but for everyone who lives throughout the vibrant northern Manhattan neighborhoods our programs serve.
