Isabella offers many satisfying opportunities for students to explore career possibilities, become accustomed to the world of work environment, and interact with people of other generations, cultures, and backgrounds. Our programs are ideal for high school students with community service requirements.

Summer Youth Employment Program at Isabella

The Summer Youth Employment Program offers summer job opportunities for young people from the ages of 14 to 21.

Isabella encourages students from northern Manhattan to apply. For further information, see the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). Participants must process their application through the following agencies: Children’s Arts and Science Workshops, Inc. and Alianza Dominicana.

Summer Mentoring Program for Children of Isabella’s Non-Union Employees:

The Summer Mentoring Program for Children of Isabella's Non-Union Employees is available to high school students aged 14 – 18. Eligible teenagers receive paid work experience in various positions at Isabella during the summer.

Summer Mentoring Program for Children of Isabella’s Union Employees:

The Student Mentoring Program is available to students whose parents are members of the Hospital Workers Union (1199 SEIU).

Teen Action Program

The Teen Action Program is available to 8th grade students. Under the supervision of Isabella’s Volunteer Department and licensed teachers, eligible students from local schools meet at Isabella to design and implement a meaningful service project that meets the needs of their community. Funded by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), Teen ACTION teaches life skills, critical thinking, civic engagement, and the value of community service.

Caring Partner Program

Students who have participated in the Summer Youth Employment Program or have prior volunteer service at Isabella may be eligible to apply for this stipend after-school program.

Participants are trained by skilled professionals on how to work with the elderly population and learn about the aging process; they assist the nursing staff in enhancing the daily living of the residents, expanding their experience by forming important relationships with supervisors who serve as mentors; as well as providing the participants with the opportunity to explore careers in the healthcare field.

McFadden Scholarship Award

Established in 1997 by the Isabella Foundation, Inc. in honor of Isabella’s retired President and Chief Executive Officer, Edward J. McFadden, to benefit community youth. Provides college scholarships to outstanding students who live in the greater Washington Heights and Inwood community. Click here to download the application.
