The YUM Food Market is open to the community every Wednesday 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Isabella, 515 Audubon Avenue, in the Coffee Shop adjacent to our lobby.
YUM is an affordable Fresh Produce Market Stand open weekly year round. Payment is accepted in the form of cash, checks, and EBT SNAP (Food Stamp) benefits. YUM’s produce is purchased directly from New York’s Hunts Point Market and delivered for sale at the Market the same day. YUM carries tropical fruits, berries, and other items desired by customers, year round, as well as seasonal and local produce when available. The produce is fresh, delicious, and will usually last for weeks in your refrigerator.
YUM is even more than a fresh produce Market Stand. It was developed and has been run by older adults living in the community for the past four years. While YUM benefits from the sponsorship and support of Isabella, it was originally developed with funding from the Atlantic Philanthropies and New York Community Trust.
YUM has also received support and guidance from the United Neighborhood Houses. It is driven by passionate volunteers who are committed to help residents of Washington Heights and nearby communities combat diabetes and other diseases through healthy eating. In keeping with that mission, YUM not only offers produce at affordable prices, but provides healthy recipes and cooking demonstrations on how to prepare and store it.
As a volunteer driven effort, YUM is intergenerational and welcomes individuals and families of all ages to volunteer a few hours at the Market, or to assist in other needed areas, such as clerical support, community outreach, preparation of flyers, recipe compiling and cooking demonstrations.
